THE  FERTILE  HEART ❤️

Hey, it’s been a while since I last posted, and I sincerely apologize for that. So, I was studying my Bible as usual (I’m following a Bible in a year plan though). I’ve read the parable of the sower so many times, but this time, as I was about to read it, I asked God to give me a different perspective. To my amazement, the Holy Spirit provided me with a new understanding, different from what I had grasped in the past. Let’s begin by reading the parable itself.

The Parable of the Sower - Mark‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬-‭20‬

Often, when I've read this parable, I assumed that Jesus had already explained everything, leaving nothing for me to uncover. The explanation seemed straightforward.

But this is what I discovered.

One thing to take note of in this parable is the **HEART!** The heart is where the seed was sown. In the context of the parable, the seed represents the word, and the soil represents the HEART.

1. The Seeds that fell on the Footpath

The seed that fell on the footpath represents those who hear the message, only to have Satan come immediately and snatch it away. The footpath or wayside is typically cemented, or even if it's in a field, it's hard due to constant movement. Seeds on such ground can't penetrate deep enough to grow, or if they do, their roots are too shallow. This signifies hearts hardened by life's challenges or personal decisions, where God's word can't even take root before the devil takes it away.

Keep in mind that within the footpath, certain areas still support small growth. This phenomenon occurs because some parts of our hearts have been traversed, allowing only a limited capacity for growth – perhaps in terms of finances and marital relationships. Conversely, the majority of our hearts remain inhospitable to any form of development. It's important to note that despite plants' desire to flourish on a footpath, they can never achieve the abundant yields of, say, a 30-fold increase; they remain feeble and mere presences. Thus, bear in mind that the footpath's current state is a result of continuous traversal, causing the hearts to become hardened, preventing seeds from penetrating and thriving.

Solution: Just as a farmer tills the soil, we can break our hardened hearts through vulnerability and trust in God's healing power. The Bible has told us in ;

Psalm 147:3 “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

Psalm 34:18

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Psalm 62:8

Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Isaiah 57:15

For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Give you’re heart to God, he’s not a man that breaks hearts.

A clay can't be reshaped while hard; it needs to be broken and remolded.

2. The Seeds that Fell on Stony Ground

These are the ones who immediately receive the word with joy but lack deep roots. When trials come, they stumble.

The existing condition of our heart matters most, just as the soil's content determines the seed's fate.

The Stony ground—a familiar sight for most of us. What comes to mind? I recall the sparse soil and abundant stones characterizing such terrain. An essential insight from the parable is that the prevailing composition or form of the soil is of utmost importance. In this context, it mirrors the state and substance of our hearts.

If the stony ground possesses minimal earth, it implies that it once had more, now supplanted by a mixture of soil and stone. But what do these stones represent? They could be remnants of past interactions, friendships, or even established belief systems. These elements hinder the growth of the seed.

Consider a brief analogy: Science as a stone. We understand that a man with a disability can regain the ability to walk. As a medical student, your training fosters a belief that aligns with what's tested in exams. This belief takes root in a section of your heart's soil. Consequently, when you encounter the word of God proclaiming that a lame man can walk, it struggles to take firm hold due to the preexisting foundation (the stone) in place. When faced with an opportunity to heal, your conviction falters, the word wanes, for your faith rests partly on the foundation of science.

Exercise caution in embedding scientific knowledge in your heart. Instead, confine it to your mind. Reserve the space in your heart for the word. People with stone-laden hearts use the available earth to allow the seed to sprout, but their meager soil prevents them from withstanding trials. Their growth falters at the first challenge. It's crucial to cleanse your heart of these stones.

Remember, God is always available to help, as His word assures us. Your heart can be transformed.

Ezekiel 36:26

Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

3. The Seeds that Fell Among Thorns

These seeds are choked by the cares of the world, deceitful riches, and desires for other things.

Let's delve into the concept of those surrounded by thorns. Initially, they were fertile ground, yet they permitted thorns to flourish alongside. Consequently, when seeds are sown, they find themselves ensnared by thorns. To align with the fertile ground, these thorns must be eradicated. These thorns symbolize wealth, life's concerns, and cravings for various desires. These elements vie for the same resources the seed requires to grow – the heart's nurturing space, the emotional substance, and the very foundation aiding the growth of the word. This competition curbs the word's potential to flourish, causing it to wither away.

However, removing these thorns creates ample room for the word to thrive. With enough space, nourishment, and favorable conditions, the word surpasses the influence of any remaining thorns. This dynamic operates inversely – the thorns fail to dominate. Hence, consider the state of your heart. 

 If other Seeds have been planted prior to the seed and they are already flourishing, they can coexist with the new word (seed) since they share similar roots. However, thorns (desires of this world , worldly beliefs) possess an inherent contradiction; they ravage and choke, fostering rivalry for space and nutrients. A decision must be made: will the word or the thorns occupy your heart? Remember, thorns don't yield abundance; they grow and proliferate, annihilating the fertile soil that represents your heart.

Recall the wisdom of Proverbs 4:23: "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it."

4. The Seeds that Fell on Good Ground

But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

I would like to rephrase this now

“The Word that was sown in a fertile Heart!”

The Enriched Heart ❤️.

As mentioned earlier, the determining factor for the seed's outcome lies within the soil's pre-existing state and content. Put differently, the result of the word we've received is shaped by our heart's prior condition and content.

The fertile soil inherently possessed all the elements necessary not only for growth but also for yielding a harvest surpassing the initial planting. This leads us to the role of the sower/the farmer. Allow me to reflect on a verse from the parable, Mark 4:14 (NLT), "The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others."

The sower; For the sower to sow the word effectively, it implies that his heart was akin to fertile ground that had already yielded bountifully. Hence, he possesses an abundance of seed to sow into the hearts of others, initiating a cycle of word propagation. This illustrates a believer with a fertile heart. They not only receive the word, but it flourishes exponentially within them. They then become carriers of God's word, disseminating it among fellow believers.

When we intend to sow a word into someone whose heart is hardened, thorny, or stony, the effectiveness doesn't hinge on the eloquence of our speech or sentence structuring. Instead, it calls for prayer, beseeching the Holy Spirit to imbue our words with His conviction. A vivid example is found in Acts 2, where Peter's words pierced the hearts of the people after he preached to them following the Spirit's baptism (Read Acts 2:1-37, with emphasis on verse 37).

Peter’s words pierced their hearts, and they said to him and to the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”

Peter's words struck deep because he was baptized and influenced by the Holy Spirit. Therefore, our approach should transcend casual word-sowing; we must impart words under the Spirit's guidance.

How Do We Make Our Hearts Fertile ?

How can we cultivate hearts that are fertile? The key lies in enhancing the heart's composition. What constitutes a fertile soil? It isn't a single element, but rather a blend of multiple components that collectively create the ideal mix.

Elements like humus, manure, and fertilizer draw parallels to spiritual aspects such as the Holy Spirit (as seen in 2 Corinthians 1:22, which states, "who also sealed us and gave us the Spirit in our hearts as a pledge"), prayer, studying God's word, and proper conditioning.

Thus, it's essential to evaluate your heart's composition. Are you fostering an environment conducive to the growth of worldly desires or God's Word? The growth of thorns signifies a heart primed for thorns rather than seeds—a disposition more welcoming to the world's values than to God's teachings.

So, consider your heart's state. Are you aligning it with worldly pursuits or dedicating it to God? A fertile heart embodies a heart of worship. Indeed, your heart's composition shapes the trajectory of your life. Hence, it becomes imperative to be cautious about what you allow to fill your heart.

This parable centers on God's Word, implying that a seed's failure to thrive in one area doesn't negate its potential to grow elsewhere. Success hinges on the type of seed and the condition of the soil, symbolizing your heart.

Remember, even on fertile ground, weeds may coexist with good crops—these are words that hinder rather than help. Address them promptly, for weeds are simply unnecessary words. In a cocoa plantation, a plantain plant would be considered a weed.

Drawing inspiration from the song "NDUM" by Nathaniel Bassey ft Mr and Mrs Revelation, Pastor Nathaniel highlights an essential truth: "any plant not sown by our Heavenly Father is illegitimate". In this parable, God reveals the prerequisites for a fertile heart—what to cease, what to embrace, and what to remove.

Make your heart a sanctuary of worship—offer sacrifices from your heart to nourish the growth of God's Word. Remove the thorns and stones, become contrite. If you stand firm, is it because the sown word hasn't encountered challenges yet? Is it because the thorns haven't fully entrenched themselves?

Remember, no heart is beyond redemption. Countless instances in the Bible emphasize heart healing and transformation. Our Creator crafted our hearts, endowing Him with the ability to reshape their state.

Ezekiel 18:31

Cast away from you all your transgressions which you have committed and make yourselves a new heart and a new spirit! For why will you die, O house of Israel?

Ezekiel 36:26

Moreover, I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit within you; and I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.

Elevating Your Yield: Steps To Improve the Quality of Your Yield

1. Pay Close Attention

   As Mark 4:24 emphasizes, “Pay close attention to what you hear. The closer you listen, the more understanding you will be given—and you will receive even more".To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what little understanding they have will be taken away from them.”

Heed the advice to listen carefully. The more attentive you are, the deeper your understanding will become. Those who immerse themselves in teachings will acquire more wisdom, while those who neglect them will lose even the little they possess.

2. Cultivate Growth

   A recurring theme within this parable is the imperative of nurturing growth. A growing word ultimately leads to abundant yields. So, when you receive a word, don't let it stagnate. Instead, delve deeper through dedicated study and exploration.

3. Put It into Action

  Jesus himself demonstrated the power of action immediately after sharing this parable by calming a storm. Similarly, when you encounter God's word, apply it in your life. Just as Jesus's words commanded the elements, the power of your words can bring about transformative change.

 Remember, the winds and seas obeyed not just Jesus, but the authority of the word he spoke. Similarly, embody the word and practice it, for it carries tremendous power. Don't keep this light hidden; let it shine brilliantly.

4. Understand The Significance of the Heart

  Although much could be said about the heart, let's conclude with a crucial thought. Consider a recent sermon that resonated deeply: the highest recorded battle in the Bible wasn't waged with conventional weapons but with words.

When the warfare between devil (the highest representation of darkness)and Jesus (the greatest representation of light, he’s is The LIGHT)came they battled with words !!. “

In your journey to elevate your yield, remember these steps—listen attentively, nurture growth, practice what you've learned, and wield the transformative power of words. Ultimately, comprehend the significance of the heart, and recognize that even in the most profound battles, words remain the most potent instrument of change.

Closing Thoughts

I extend my heartfelt gratitude for joining me thus far and for engaging with these words, which have been inspired by the Spirit. If you find yourself reading this and have yet to surrender your life to Jesus, if you desire His guiding presence in your heart, taking the initial step is essential. This foundational act of belief in your heart paves the way for Jesus to take residence within you, allowing Him to transform your heart's very essence.

You can make the following confession as your own, based on Romans 10:9-11: 

"I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. With my heart, I embrace this faith, leading to justification, and with my mouth, I profess my salvation. As Scripture assures, 'Anyone who trusts in Him will never be put to shame.'"

A promise has been made to you, as detailed in Ephesians 3:16-17. Through His glorious riches, He pledges to strengthen you with His Spirit's power within your inner self. This empowerment facilitates Christ's residence in your heart through faith, grounding you in love.

Upon inviting Christ into your life, you receive a seal—a token marking your salvation—the Holy Spirit! This divine presence plays a significant role in nurturing and conditioning your heart. Galatians 4:6 affirms, "Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, 'Abba! Father!'"

In embracing Christ's presence, you initiate a transformative journey, anchored in faith and guided by His Spirit. This marks the beginning of a path to salvation and a heart renewed by His enduring love.

Concluding Blessings

As we draw this journey to a close, let us say this short prayer in our hearts.

Heavenly Father, I beseech you to elevate the state of our hearts. May your divine touch mend and refine us, shaping our hearts into fertile ground for your word to flourish. I echo the words of Ephesians 1:18, praying that our hearts become radiant vessels, flooded with your light. Grant us the wisdom to comprehend the unshakable hope bestowed upon your chosen ones, those who form your sacred and resplendent inheritance.

Let Ephesians 3:16-18 be our anthem of supplication. From your boundless resources, infuse us with inner strength through your Holy Spirit. May Christ find a dwelling within our hearts, solidified through our unwavering trust in Him. With roots entrenched in your boundless love, may we stand firm and unyielding. May our hearts be graced with the ability to fathom the breadth, length, height, and depth of your unparalleled love—a love that surpasses all understanding.
